Review by Bryan Rose

Yu Gi Oh has hit it big in 2002. Swarms of preteens have bought the cards, and the games are also selling pretty well. My brother is one of them. So when I told him I wanted to review it, he said I could borrow it. When I played it, I did NOT have a very fun time. The difficult system the game uses turned me off instantly. I didn’t really find anything good about the game, so about 30 minutes later, I turned it off to start writing this review. So sit back as you hear about the horrors of Yu Gi Oh: The Eternal Duelist Soul.

...And also, I have no freaking life whatsoever.

When I first turned on the game, I started to look for some sort of option that would teach me how to play it. Nothing. Saddened, I tried to read one of the instruction booklets. After that, I still was totally confused about how to play the game. I then decided to wing it and just play. After choosing a deck and picking whom I would face (I chose Yugi, the hero of the series), I started the duel. After that, it seemed like complete gibberish. I then said forget it and tried to find something else to do in the game.

The "graphics", if you want to call them that, are actually pretty ok. The card designs are quite good, and everything else isn’t poorly inserted into the game. The one thing that is really, really annoying is the sound. It’s very generic; it doesn’t sound all that original. So if you’re looking for all the "cool" music that the show plays, think again.

Hmph. Like im supposed to know what to do with THIS freaking card.

Overall, Yu Gi Oh:TEDS is another game that falls into the category "Crappy Game That’s Based On A TV Franchise". Also, a tutorial or any tips on how to play the game is NOT there. So don’t expect to fully understand the game if you’re a newbie to the Yu Gi Oh craze. Sure, Konami brought you Metal Gear and other memorable franchises, and Yu Gi Oh might be another one, but really, do they have to make the games this crappy?

Presentation "Hey, this Yu Gi Oh franchise is big! Lets make 359800 games that don’t even teach newcomers how to play, and make it really, really, cruddy!" -What the programmers said during development of this game.

Graphics Graphics? There are some "realistic-looking" cards, if that’s what you’re saying. And I guess the card designs look pretty cool. But really, there isn’t much to talk about in this game.

Audio Generic city ahoy! Really, the music is full of generic, happy, music. Fun, fun, fun.

Gameplay I hardly understand how to play the game, and when I try to play this game, it doesn’t give a clue how to play. Maybe if Konami were a little nicer, a tutorial would of helped the score, big time.

Lasting Appeal Sure, the game might be long lasting with diehard Yu Gi Oh fans, but when it comes to a gamer that never played the game, the difficult, confusing gameplay will turn anyone off.
