Nintendo Conquers March [ IGN Cube ] -- Posted on Wednesday, April 30 2003 7:38 AM
Strong sales of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker shot sales of video games up by eight percent, as reported by Reuters today. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker sold more than 826,000 copies during that month, giving it the #1 spot in game sales. But, according to independent analysts, did not help the overall sales of the GameCube itself.

As for the Game Boy Advance, sales rise by 36 percent from the recent success of the latest Pokemon title.

"We view the March industry software data as disappointing… excluding the strong software sell-through by Nintendo, industry software sales would have been down 8.3 percent," J.P. Morgan analyst Dean Gianoukos stated in a note.

He went on to say that he expected EA, Activision and THQ to either meet or top their sales estimates for March.

The Game Cube took in 10.7 percent of the market share, as Sony Playstation 2 snatched up 37.8 percent and 14.7 for the Microsoft XBox, according to Gianoukos.

Pokemon Stadium 3 Seems More than Likely [ Newtechnix ] -- Posted on Wednesday, April 30 2003 2:01 AM
It seems more than likely that the next Pokemon game on GameCube (besides that Pokemon Box thing) will be a new addition to the Stadium collection. Both Pokemon Stadium games on Nintendo 64 were million sellers so it seems like the best choice for Nintendo to go with what they know will sell big regardless of the outcries for an actual 3D Pokemon RPG. No word on a date of the game or if it will be at E3.

It's not a GameCube Zelda but it's the next best thing. A new Zelda game is being developed by Capcom for the Gameboy Advance. The game will be featured at E3 but it is unknown right now if it will be playable or just a video, most likely it's just a video. The game is said to take on similarities to The Four Swords game which was packing in with A Link to the Past for GBA. More information on this when it becomes available.

Capcom's E3 Line-Up [ GC-Inside ] -- Posted on Monday, April 28 2003 12:15 PM
GC-Inside, an online magazine, today revealed which games Capcom would have at E3 along with which of them will be playable. Strange enough, Dead Phoenix will not be at the convention which brings up suspicions that it was one of those eighteen games canceled a while back. Of the six games Capcom is showing only three of them are playable. Resident Evil 4 is not playable; someone hates me.

A brief interview with the producer of the latest addition to the SSX series of games by EA Canada, Larry LaPierre, popped up on IGN Cube today explaining a few details from the game. A few new screens from the game were also included in the article.

According to the interview, a couple of the features enable players to continue combos over the ground by using "board press tricks" and block attempts to hit you. As for the levels or courses or whatever you may call it, the game will take players on what's described as one gigantic mountain with various paths, areas and events all over it. Ten characters will be in the game. Six of the previous characters and four new ones.

Grand Theft Auto Games MIGHT Come to Cube [ Yahoo ] -- Posted on Saturday, April 26 2003 13:21 PM
In an article by Yahoo a little while ago the following passage was found:

The last two "Grand Theft Auto" games have provided an immersive story with multiple coinciding missions. The next one is due out in 2004. A month later, "Grand Theft Auto 3" and "Vice City" finish exclusive run on Sony's PlayStation 2 and will be available for Microsoft's Xbox and Nintendo's GameCube. "And they will sell, like, a jillion copies," Pachter said.

This next passage is taken from Nintendo's E3 mini-page:

"With mega-hits like Metroid Prime and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker already exclusively available for Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo is riding a wave of momentum as the show approaches. Industry leaders such as Electronic Arts, Sega, Capcom, Activision, Rock Star Games and many more will be showcasing their upcoming Nintendo GameCube games at the 2003 E3 Expo.."

It does hint that the two GTA games for PS2 will be coming to Nintendo but nothing is solid. If they did they would be arriving in 2004 sometime. I highly doubt Nintendo would take a game like that and get it ported to Cube. Hopefully some light will be shed on the subject at E3 in a few weeks.

Midway Gets Scolded for Violent Ad [ Gamers.com ] -- Posted on Friday, April 25 2003 14:12 PM
Midway was running an advertisement in Europe for the recently released Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. The advertisement was taken down due to a series of complaints by parents of younger children. They said the advertisement condoned violence and racism (because there was an African-American depicted in the ad). You can view an ad similiar to the one removed by heading over to Gamers.com or clicking the source link. Midway now has to go to the Committee of Advertising Practice every time they want to put up a new advertisement now in Europe.

Midway's European marketing director David Burton told Reuters news service, "The poster in question was created in conjunction with a TV advertising campaign, which hints at the player's competitive nature and what they are thinking while playing. It does not portray a crime or violent act."

Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines for the Cube [ IGNCube ] -- Posted on Thursday, April 24 2003 17:40 PM
Atari has announced that Black Ops Entertainment will be developing the Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines game that we all knew would come.

Said to be a first person shooter which will contain somewhere over 20 weapons, such as grenade launchers, assault rifles and futuristic weaponry like the SkyNet Arc-Laser, and is scheduled to be played in 20 various areas of cities from the present day or cities from the future war.

The plot will follow closely along with the movie, featuring clips from the film and about five minutes of newly filmed footage shot exclusively for the game. It will also apparently feature a chance to be evil. Yep, you know you want to be evil. The part where you play as the enemy will be set in the future before the T-800 (Schwarzeneggar) was programmed to save John Connor. How exciting.

The game is scheduled for a Fall 2003 release on all major video game systems and will be shown at E3 this year.

Washington State Passes Videogame Violence Bill [ GCA ] -- Posted on Thursday, April 24 2003 14:07 PM
Washington State has passed a bill making it a misdemeanor to rent or sell vidoegames that depict violent acts against police or other government authorities to persons under the age of 17. The bill was passed in a landslide vote of 47-7. The exact wording bill is as follows, "Contains realistic or photographic-like depictions of aggressive conflict in which the player kills, injures, or otherwise causes violence to a human form in the game who is depicted, by dress or other recognizable symbols, as a public law enforcement officer." If caught selling and/or renting these games to persons under 17 there will be a hefty fine waiting for them (if they're caught of course).

Jack Noseworthy Signs on to RE2 [ IMDB ] -- Posted on Thursday, April 24 2003 13:38 PM
Jack Noseworthy is the most recent actor to sign on to be in Resident Evil 2: Nemesis. Jack will be playing that annoying helicopter pilot that leaves Jill and Chris to fend for themselves in Resident Evil (game). After thinking it over in my head Brad Vickers is the first victim of the Nemesis in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (game). Jack Noseworthy has starred in films such as Undercover Brother, U-571, Idle Hands, and Event Horizon. If you want to see the rest of Jack's work head over to IMDB. Also, Jason Isaacs (The Patriot, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets) is signed on to play Doctor William Birkin. Other presumed characters in the movie include Jill Valentine and Albert Wesker, though it is not known who will play them.

Pikmin 2 and Mario Kart: Double Dash Release Dates [ Nintendo of Europe ] -- Posted on Thursday, April 24 2003 11:24 AM
On Nintendo of Europe's media site they mention that both Pikmin 2 and Mario Kart: Double Dash will be released in Europe by the end of the year. If Europe is getting these two mega hits by year's end then it is most likely that they will be released in Japan shortly after E3 and probably late Summer or early Fall for the North American region. Both of these games will be at E3 with Mario Kart: Double Dash probably being Nintendo's biggest featured game.

Rogue Squadron III Game Details [ GCAdvanced ] -- Posted on Wednesday, April 23 2003 16:28 PM
GCA recently received a copy of the June edition of Electronic Gaming Monthly. Inside there was tons of new information regarding Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike. Below is all the information.

- The game will span 13 missions plus 7 additional hidden missions that take place right after the destruction of the Death Star.

- Missions will include memorable parts of the Star Wars Trilogy such as saving Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Luke Skywalker (posing as imperial soldiers) all modeled with painstaking detail.

- The famous Hoth level will be expanded to enable you to fly up into orbit and see the battle taking place below you on the snow covered grounds.

- Character models will be rendered using the character rendering technology made for Thornado which supposedly enables very realistic onscreen characters.

- This time the skies and backgrounds will be filled with up to 120 Tie Fighters. That is double the amount that Rogue Squadron 2 was able to display.

- Background terrain is now 16x more detailed than in Rogue Squadron 2.

- A revamped sky particle system models how light scatters in the atmosphere as well as allowing very realistic modeling of sunrises and sunsets of the twin suns of Tatooine.

- The ewoks will now help you via d-pad controls in parts of the forest levels.

- The game incorporates destructible backgrounds such as trees.

- There will be times where you have a choice of different characters to use during some levels. Situations and game play will change depending on who is chosen. This could lead to some interesting branching storylines and levels.

- All of the original Rogue Leader levels will be included in the game as Co-Op only missions.

- Other multiplayer modes for up to four players will also be available.

Spawn to be at E3 [ Impress Game Watch ] -- Posted on Wednesday, April 23 2003 16:18 PM
Todd McFarlane's comic book character Spawn, who is a playable character in the Xbox version of Soul Calibur II, will be getting his own 3D action/adventure game. The game will most likely be called simply "Spawn". The game is planned to be released on all three next-gen systems. Obviously, Namco is going to be the developer and publisher. No release date is known now but this game will be at E3 so we will probably find out then.

Pikmin 2 Does Have a Story! [ Nintendo of America ] -- Posted on Wednesday, April 23 2003 16:00 PM
Pikmin 2 was announced a little while back without any real solid story. With Nintendo opening its E3 2003 website today we now have that story. It seems kind of interesting, maybe even better than the first Pikmin.

"The company he works for is going bankrupt, so to save it, Olimar must salvage the treasure buried all over the planet. His company's debt is a whopping 10,000 pokos- luckily, Olimar brought an assistant, so if the two of them can delegate their work well, they should be able to erase that debt in no time! Of course, they'll need the help of the Pikmin to do that-these two can't do anything by themselves. Alternate controlling the main characters-Olimar and his assistant-as you command your Pikmin to defeat enemies, propagate more Pikmin, collect precious doodads, and solve puzzles. With no time limit, new colors of Pikmin, and two-player cooperative play, Pikmin 2 improves on the original in every way."

Did they really just use the word "doodads?"

MARIO KART REVEALED! (Updated) [ Newtechnix ] -- Posted on Wednesday, April 23 2003 11:24 AM
Newtechnix has scored some unbelievable shots of Mario Kart: Double Dash. This game is looking insane, with a whole slew of new vehicles, tracks, and presumably weapons as well. Characters include Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, Yoshi, Birdo, Wario, Waluigi, Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Bowser, Baby Bowser, Koopa Troopa, and Koopa Paratroopa. Looks like our April Fools joke wasn't too far off. Some interesting new gameplay features are shown, like two characters on the same vehicle, along with classic 4-player mode. Click the source link to see them and shed tears of joy. Mario Kart is back.

While you're there, check out the Pikmin 2 and some more RS3 screens here and here

UPDATE:
This is taken from Nintendo's E3 2003 site, it helps explain the game a little better.

"The latest in the acclaimed Mario Kart series is here, and this time, you won't be racing alone! Each kart holds two racers, so choose from Mario, Luigi, Peach, Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, Yoshi, Birdo, Wario, Waluigi, Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Bowser, Bowser Jr., Koopa, and Paratroopa and pair them up any way you see fit. The character in front handles the driving duties, while the character in the rear doles out damage with six normal items and eight special items that only specific characters can use. Racers can swap places at any time, so switch it up on the fly to make the best use of your items as you tear around curves and over huge elevation changes."

Konami Breaks Rules of The Fair Trade Commission of Japan [ Gamers.com ] -- Posted on Wednesday, April 23 2003 1:35 AM
The Fair Trade Commission of Japan has issued a warning to Konami in regards to attempting to hold a monopoly on the Japanese Bassball Associate videogames. Konami does have a license to use the JPBA teams and players but had to sub-license to other developers if there wasn't a good reason not to. This has apparently been going on since April of 2000 (when Konami obtained the license). However, the license is up next month and Konami's license will not be renewed. The JPBA will not distribute rights to developers on an individual basis.

Rogue Squadron III Details and Screens Released [ Gamers.com ] -- Posted on Wednesday, April 23 2003 1:25 AM
Bits of information and the first screens from Rogue Squadron III have been released on the internet. It seems that once again Star Wars fanatics and those who loved the previous games of the Rogue Squadron series shall once again battle on the beautiful, cold planet of Hoth. In addition to that, the screens also show off new features such as a two player co-operative mode, the ability to leave your vehicle and run around in a third person view and leaping into various different vehicles, other than what the Rebel Alliance provided for you, such as AT-STs, speeder bikes and so on.

The June issue of the magazine Electronic Gaming Monthly, which will apparently hit magazine stands May 6th while subscribers get it this week, will contain more exclusive details and around 40 screens from the game. Gamers.com also mentions they will have a two minute gameplay movie sometime in the middle of May.

Shinji Mikami Steps Down [ Magic Box ] -- Posted on Wednesday, April 23 2003 1:16 AM
Shinji Mikami has decided to step down as the chief of Production Studio 4. The decision comes from recent poor sales of Biohazrad 0 and P.N.03. He will still stay on a a producer but will have very little say in the big decisions that are being made. With Shinji Mikami out of the main office it appears that Killer 7 cancelation rumors have disappeared; the game will still be made. This also means that maybe the controls for the remaining 4 of the Capcom 5 will be semi-decent.

P. Diddy Decides to Create Videogame [ New York Post ] -- Posted on Tuesday, April 22 2003 0:18 AM
Sean "P.Diddy" Combs is currently working to get his new game idea into development. Right now he has no developer, no publisher, no details on the game, and no idea which system it will be available on. Basically he has no game, only an idea. However, with his large resources of money from his music and clothing businesses it is most likely this idea will be made into a game.

The game seems a lot like The Sims but in a more "business" way. Players take the role of a character and try to bring their character to the head of a global entertainment corporation. "P. Diddy" had the following to say, “This new game will have Sean ‘P. Diddy’ Combs’ likeness in a top-of-the-line video game, which will reach the elusive youth and urban markets.” Dear lord, he talks in the third person when desribing his own game. He seems a touch to full of himself.

It was today reported that Bruce Feirstein, the screenwriter for MGM’s James Bond movies: "Goldeneye" (1995), "Tomorrow Never Dies" (1997) and "The World Is Not Enough" (1999)), will be helping with the next game. No plot details or other information is available at this time. It does seem unlikely at this point that they would be using the storyline from Die Another Day, the latest Bond movie.

Live Video Game Concert Rescheduled for 2004 [ Music4Games ] -- Posted on Thursday, April 17 2003 22:36 PM
The video game concert, which was originally set for sometime around E3, was unfortunately canceled this year and rescheduled for 2004. For those that may not have known, it will be the first live symphonic concert play music from various video games and was to be held somewhere in Los Angeles.

No specific date was announced for 2004.

Apparently they weren't ready to put it out this year and ultimately decided to postpone it for next year. They also intend on making it much larger than they originally planned due to the "overwhelmingly positive" response they got for the event. More can be read about it at the source link.

Many special thanks to IRC chatter Joshums for bringing this to our attention!

Sega and Namco Merger Official [ Namco Japan ] -- Posted on Thursday, April 17 2003 6:47 AM

Both Sega and Namco felt that in order to stay competitive in the gaming market of the future they would have to join forces. Already both of the companies are working with Nintendo to bring franchise Nintendo games to GameCube. Namco is working on Star Fox Armada and Sega is working on F-Zero GC and F-Zero AC (the arcade version). The merger will most likely not go into effect until the fiscal year of 2004; much like the Square Enix merger. They are expected to have sales around 3 billion U.S. dollars when the merger is complete.

Mario Kart Officially NOT Online Updated [ Newtechnix/Quiter ] -- Posted on Thursday, April 17 2003 6:24 AM
It is now official according to well respected Japanese magazine Quiter, Mario Kart will NOT be online. This does not come as much of a shock seeing as how Shigero Miyamoto said himself a while back that they were having problems getting the game to work properly online. However, all is not a disappointment. The new LAN Gamecube which will be presented at E3 will work with Mario Kart.

Two Cubes, two copies of Mario Kart, and two TVs would be needed to play with the LAN GameCube. The end result would be being able to play with up to eight people at a time. According to Quiter Mario Kart is already finished and ready to be released. Nintendo is holding out however so they can show it off at E3 and get publicity. With this knowledge we can predict that it will be released in Japan sometime in June and in early Fall in North America.

Updated: It should be known that even though the game is not officially online, 3rd party companies such as GameSpy, can easily write programs that allow you to connect two cubes over the internet using the LAN capabilities. Of course with the two GameCube limit you'd only be able to connect to one friend.

Sega and Namco Looking to Merge? [ Gamers.com ] -- Posted on Wednesday, April 16 2003 15:58 PM
Reports are saying that Sega and Namco, two major third parties, are looking to merge. Should this merger take place, the resulting company would be the largest software producer in Japan, with projected sales reaching 350 billion yen (approximately $3 billion US), surpassing the current leader, Konami, by perhaps up to and over one billion yen per year. Sega shareholders have been looking at the deal with mixed opinions, some supporting the merger, others being skeptical. Supposedly, on the Namco side, the merge would leave Sega as the surviving entity company by some time in 2004, though details are still sketchy. A meeting of Sega's board that is scheduled for next Wednesday will reportedly settle this issue, as well as the previously reported Sammy merger and a possible deal with Electronic Arts. Many of you know that Sega and Namco already share a strong tie with both each other and Nintendo, being partners in the Triforce Arcade Board and developing GameCube incarnations of two major Nintendo franchises, F-Zero and Star Fox. As soon as we hear something more concrete we'll pass it on to you.

New Platformer from Sega [ Sega ] -- Posted on Monday, April 14 2003 11:16 AM
Sega of America announced today that Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg will be coming, exclusively for GameCube. The game direction is being headed by Yuji Naka, most notable for being the mastermind behind the Sonic the Hedgehog series. According to the press release, "the first all-new platform game and character from Yuji Naka and SONICTEAM since the SEGA Saturn era, 'Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg' is the story of a young boy who must save a once magical kingdom from the clutches an evil King who threatens to rule with an everlasting night. Gamers must learn to use the powers of a legendary suit and control magical eggs to restore light to the kingdom." The game will be a fast-paced (like we'd expect any different from Naka-san) platformer, and the player will use magical eggs to hatch new creatures and solve puzzles or fight enemies. Sounds trippy. The game is slated to release this Fall in the US.

Good 'Ol Joe Speaks Up Again [ CNET News.com ] -- Posted on Friday, April 11 2003 13:35 PM
You might want to check out this article, it is very informative about Senator Joe Lieberman's plans on how to combat the extreme violence in videogames. I will put some quotes below for you so you don't have to read the whole article if you don't want to. All I can say is at least he changed his plan from "get rid of all videogames, they're evil and destroying our society" (not an actual quote) to "get rid of games like GTAIII, which is horrible for younger kids" (not an actual quote either). I agree with him a little more now but not completely. Games like GTAIII should not be played by 12 year olds but that is why we have ESRP. It all comes down to parents not caring. We need to blame the parents and not the game makers. The first amendment speaks volumes for this issue. The following is from the article:

The planned legislation would create a program within the National Institutes of Health to fund studies measuring the health effects of media on children.

"Although our research base on the power of interactive media to influence children's learning and development is growing, it is still small," said Brownback, a Kansas Republican. "If this nation wants to realize the best for its youth, then additional research funding is essential to provide the information parents need to make informed decisions about their children's health."

Nikkei Business Daily is Reporting More Bullshit [ Nikkei Business Daily ] -- Posted on Tuesday, April 8 2003 15:30 PM
From the same idiots that reported that Capcom was going to basically have no Nintendo support brings you this load of crap. According to their newspaper Nintendo is going to come out with their next console before Sony comes out with PS3 and Microsoft comes out with Xbox 2. I just felt like you guys would like to laugh at some of the rumors that are floating around. If Nintendo had news this big to report they would do it themselves, not let some scrappy media publication like the Nikkei Business Daily do it.

Ok let me explain more because some people don't understand. A while back Satoru Iwata said that in a new stradegy he wanted Nintendo to come out with their next console in 2005. The Nikkei Business Daily twisted his words around. They basically said that 2005 was a set date for the next console. All Nintendo said was that they WANTED to make that date. Nothing was official and nothing was fact. This is just another example of a newspaper mixing the facts with their own opinion. If you feel the need to talk more on this visit our forums.

After the reports of Capcom focusing more on other systems came out last week (which was total crap) Capcom's stock surged up eighteen percent this week. The article seemingly had some use and while Capcom took heavy losses last fiscal year this year looks very sunny for them. Onimusha 3, which is not coming to Cube, is projected to sell three million units worldwide. Furthermore, Capcom is expected to release Resident Evil across multiple platforms. However, that is only the sidequest missions of the series. It is rumored that Resident Evil 4 could be the last game in the main storyline though.

With the site being down we couldn't have these up yesterday but I still think that they're new enough for you all to see. The videos are rather large so I wouldn't recommend downloading them if you are on dialup. Happy downloading, perhaps later in the week NEC will give us these videos toned down just a little.

Gekitou Pro Yakyuu Revealed by Sega [ Sega of Japan ] -- Posted on Friday, April 4 2003 13:55 PM
Sega unvieled their new baseball game called Gekitou Pro Yakyuu (Fierce Fighting Pro Baseball) which is for the GameCube and PlayStation 2. The game is suppose to come out in Japan this year and North America early next year. The game use "manga" which is a Japanese form of art and it has a cel-shaded look to it. It will have the 2003 rosters with over 300 players. The screenshots are below but my question is this. Does the Japanese version have Japanese players in it or does it have the Major League players in it? It sounds like its all MLB players, but why would the Japanese want to play as American players? Maybe its because our baseball is better.

BG:DA2 Might be Cube Bound [ GameSpy ] -- Posted on Friday, April 4 2003 12:20 PM
Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 2 was announced for Xbox and PS2 last week and it looks like it might be headed to Cube in the near future. GameSpy got in contact with Kevin Osborne who had this to say:

“Unfortunately right now there aren't any plans on doing a GameCube version, but that doesn't necessarily mean it won't happen. I worked on the GameCube version of BGDA and enjoyed working with the GameCube, and everyone at Nintendo. Our current BGDA 2 team isn't big enough to handle 3 platforms at once, but who knows what will happen down the road.”

Sonic DX and Pinball get Release Dates [ Sega ] -- Posted on Friday, April 4 2003 12:16 PM
The release for Sonic Adventure DX is set for a June 19th and Sonic Pinball Party is slated for a July 19th release date. These are Japan dates of course since the news came from Sega of Japan. Sonic Pinball Party is for GBA and Sonic Adventure DX is for GCN. No word on North American release dates but they shouldn't be too far away from the Japanese ones.

GBA SP Does well Opening Weekend in Europe [ Reuters ] -- Posted on Friday, April 4 2003 10:06 AM
Nintendo recently announced that just over 200,000 Game Boy Advance SP units were sold during its debut weekend in Europe last week (March 28). This number represents roughly fifty percent of stock, at the time. The company has set an aggressive target for the GBA SP and has predicted sales of 20 million Game Boy Advance units (worldwide) for the business year that began April 1st. Nintendo intends to ship 2 million GBA SP units to Europe by June.

David Gosen, managing director of Nintendo Europe, told Reuters on Friday that more than 50% of the GBA SP buyers were first time GBA owners and the average age for these buyers was 23! "To have over fifty percent of purchasers as first-time buyers is exactly on strategy to grow the hand-held market," Gosen said.

More on Nintendo's Greatness [ Nintendo of America ] -- Posted on Friday, April 4 2003 10:03 AM
Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire have dominated the Japanese market since their release a few months ago selling an amazing 2.2 million units each. The games, which released to North America on March 17th bave all had 2.2 million units of both games shipped to retailers. The two new hit Pokemon games just can't seem to be kept on the shelves. It is reported that the games are likely to pass the Japanese sales by next month! The recent overwhelming success of the GBA SP selling eight hundred thousand units is believed to be because of Pokemon fever. Peter MacDougall, executive vice president, sales and marketing, Nintendo of America had this to say,

"While no one will know the champion of this season's college basketball tournament until next week, the winner of this spring's video game tournament is Nintendo. Game Boy Advance SP, Zelda and Pokemon represent a three point play that players and retailers dream about."

Sales of the GameCube have jumped 20% since the Zelda preorder deal. They also claim to have shipped 800,000 Game Boy Advance SPs already.

I Love it When I'm Right [ PGC ] -- Posted on Friday, April 4 2003 4:25 AM
I had my suspicions when I saw the article and Bakudan Yoshinoya, Planet GameCube's Japanese Correspondent, confirms what I thought. The following was taken from Capcom's Japanese website:

“As previously announced in September 13, 2001, as of present time there are no plans to port Biohazard (GC) and Biohzard 0 (GC) to other systems. Also, Biohazard 4, which is currently in production, will be released for the GameCube as previously planned. There are no changes regarding our fundamental direction.”

I knew that the RE series wasn't going anywhere. You just cant trust newspapers anymore; they'll report anything and make it sound like what they said were fact when it wasn't.

First Ever Futurama Video [ Cube-Europe ] -- Posted on Friday, April 4 2003 1:39 AM
Cube-Europe scored a pretty cool video of Futurama. The video can be seen by clicking the source link and going to CE's website and downloading the trailer in either high resolution or low resolution. The game comes out later this year and by watching the video you can see that it is almost identical to the actual cartoon. The voice acting is also the same as in the cartoon. The player can take on the role of the three main characters, Fry, Bender and Leila, as their adventure takes them from Planet Express right around the galaxy.

What a Load of Crap [ Newtechnix ] -- Posted on Friday, April 4 2003 1:26 AM
A report published by Nikkei Business Daily informed us yesterday that Capcom might start to focus more on PlayStation 2 and Xbox development rather than GameCube. They say decision seems to be because of weak GameCube sales as of late. The newspaper goes on to say that Resident Evil 4 may be the last exclusive RE game to GameCube. This makes me wonder how credible the rest of the story is. Nothing has been said yet by Capcom, so it makes all this NOT official.

The main storyline for Resident Evil is exclusive to Nintendo for a long time to come. With the announcement of the exclusivity of the Capcom 5 I very well doubt that Capcom will stray away from Nintendo any time soon. E3 is a few weeks away and big announcements are suppose to go down there. We will keep you informed up to the minute out there.

Low-income Means More Video Games? [ New York Times ] -- Posted on Wednesday, April 2 2003 8:28 AM
A recent survey shows that homes with an income of less then $35,000 is 50% more likely to play video games than a home with an income of $74,000 or more. It also turns out the teenagers usually spend more time watching TV, going online, or listening to the radio then playing games, but they played games more then they read (no really? I honestly thought it was the other way around).

Activision has released a new trailer for the upcoming game Lost Kingdoms II which is being developed by From Software. The game will release in North American on May 13th and in Japan on May 6th. Right click and save the new trailer to your harddrive. This game is a must have for any RPG fan. I don't even like RPGs that much and I might have to give this game a try.

Our Great April Fools Joke [ ] -- Posted on Wednesday, April 2 2003 4:26 AM
HAHA, ok admit it I am sure you fell for it. There is no NES you can find in Wind Waker. Our lovable webmaster Mr. Schraeder is just very very good with photoshop. We want to know how many of you fell for it. Please tell us in the forums and we can all have a laugh.

Oh but that's not all, we had another one too. Mario Kart character list anyone? Now this one is our pure genius idea. We even managed to fool other websites like GCA, NintendoNow, and Cube-Europe (however they realized eventually and took it down). It took about an hour or so to come up with thirty characters that were all in some way related to Mario. Remember its Mario Kart, not Nintendo Kart. Hopefully though when the official list is out we won't have been to far off.

New Wind Waker Secret Revealed! [ GCA/GCCafé ] -- Posted on Tuesday, April 1 2003 15:35 PM
Earlier today, GameCube Advanced ran a story about finding the original Legend of Zelda for NES in Wind Waker (click the source link for that story). We, of course, found such a claim hard to believe, but just to be sure we did some investigation. After aimlessly sailing around the Great Sea for about a half hour or so, I did manage to find a mysteriously placed treasure spot. Much to my surprise, (and delight!) the chest I pulled up didn't contain the usual 20 rupees, but an NES! To see the image, taken with a friend's digital camera video input option, go here.

As reported on GCA, the spot of where the chest is seems to be either randomly changing each day or just in a different spot on every game. I managed to find mine in the sector just south of the big volcano Fire Island, so be sure to check there; I can't promise that it will be in the same spot, though. The game does indeed allow you to save using your already existing Wind Waker slot on your memory card, or you can play it with your Game Boy Advance (be warned, though, you cannot save and you must keep the power running or it will be lost). It may be hard to find, but it's well worth it! No word yet on if the game appears in the Japanese version of Wind Waker.

Midway Announces ESPionage [ Midway ] -- Posted on Tuesday, April 1 2003 14:47 PM
Midway has unveiled its new game, ESPionage. The game will span all three major consoles, including, of course, GameCube. The game will be an action-stealth game which, in addition to traditional combat weapons, incorporates psychic abilities which can also be used in battle for the first time in a game of this type. The lead character, Nick Geller, is described as "an elite American Psi-Operative."

Key features include:
-Psi Powers - The first and only action/stealth game to integrate weapons combat with extensive and unique Psi mind powers including:
- Telekinesis - The ability to lift people and objects and hold, move or throw them in any direction.
- Pyrokinesis - The ability to launch a wall of fire that ignites everything in its path.
- Mind Control - The ability to take control of enemy bodies.
- Remote Viewing - The ability to go "out-of-body" to see through doors to plan your "attack" and/or get information you would not be able to get in physical form.
- Mind Drain - The ability to drain Psi power from enemies, which results in death to the victim.
- Aura View - The ability to "see" elements that are not visible in the real world.

Other features include:
- Action and Stealth Combination - Intense, fast-paced action with strategic stealth elements. The emphasis is on action, with elements of stealth.
- Traditional Weapons - In addition to Psi mind control powers, traditional weapons, such as handguns and automatic weaponry, still play a major role in gameplay and combined with the Psi powers create an extraordinary and powerful gameplay dynamic.
- Intense Storyline - An engaging and compelling storyline reveals the mystery of Nick's identity and the origin of his Psi powers while infiltrating the compounds of "The Movement," a powerful psychic terrorist organization.
- Multiple Levels and Compounds - Seven huge and immersive levels within four distinct compounds spread throughout the world.
- Deep AI - Adaptive artificial intelligence makes enemies extremely aware of the player's actions and delivers more intense, realistic fighting.
- Multiple Methods for Solving Missions - The non-linear design allows the gamer to conquer the mission in multiple ways, allowing for endless replay value.

ESPionage is set for a fall release.
