Nintendo Cracks Down On Piracy [ USA Today ]

In response to a lawsuit filed by Nintendo of America, a federal judge on Friday temporarily barred sales of counterfeit video-game hardware and software at kiosks in area malls. U.S. District Judge John C. Coughenour also ordered seizure of the materials. He agreed Redmond-based Nintendo would suffer immediate and irreparable harm — loss of income and goodwill, and reduced value of company trademarks — if the defendants continued importing and selling the pirated products.

It's Nintendo's first major effort to stop sale of counterfeit products in the United States, and was sparked by tips from more than 400 fans, said Jodi Daugherty, director of anti-piracy efforts for Nintendo of America and its parent, Kyoto, Japan-based parent, Nintendo. The counterfeit products are made in China, she said. Coughenour's order and the lawsuit target two local operations — What's On of Lynnwood and SER of Kirkland — and their officials. Officials of What's On declined comment. Directory assistance did not have a listing for SER.

Click the link to read the entire article. Myself and several Café staffers have seen and played these devices in Crossgates Mall in Upstate New York where we live. We tried it out, and had some fun when we were watching movies but we always questioned how they were doing this legally. When we asked the person running it he told us everything was legit and legal. Needless to say we did NOT buy this product. If you have seen one of these kiosk type places in a mall near where you live you can fire off Nintendo an e-mail telling them about it here.

Nobuo Uematsu Leaves Square-Enix [ RPGFan ]

It seems the legend behind most of Final Fantasy's music (as well as other games') has left Square-Enix. Nobuo apparently intends to found his own company. The departure of Nobuo is only one of a string of high-profile employees that have left Square-Enix over the last few years. Nobuo said there is still a possibility of some sort of relationship with Square-Enix, but what he will do on his own in the future is the most interesting speculation.

New Nintendo DS Commercial [ GameCube Café ]

An overeager lion rescripted a commercial for Nintendo DS™ by jumping into a tree with Wildboyz star Steve-O, playfully pawing at his body and gnawing on his safari hat. Both the lioness and Steve-O emerged unscathed. The commercial, starring Steve-O and Chris Pontius and directed by Jeff Tremaine of the popular MTV show Wildboyz, highlights the unique features of Nintendo DS. In the spot, Pontius rides an elephant while using the touch screen of Nintendo DS to play a wireless multiplayer game with Steve-O, who has been treed by a trio of lions.

During the shoot, one female adult sprung into the tree and onto a branch with Steve-O. The lioness, possibly inspired by the "Touching is Good" slogan for Nintendo DS, wrapped its paws around Steve-O and nibbled at his hat. Steve-O remained calm, repeating "good kitty" over and over, but never once dropped his Nintendo DS. The lioness' improvised move remains in the final cut of the commercial, which can be seen starting today on MTV networks as part of Nintendo's $40 million marketing campaign to launch Nintendo DS. A behind-the-scenes look at the filming of the commercial can be seen exclusively at Nintendo.com, where the Wildboyz say that the encounter with the lion was the wildest adventure they've ever had. You can view these movies in any browser or if you feel the need, you can save them to your hard drive.

Prince of Persia: Warrior Within Delayed [ Ubisoft ]

Ubisoft has decided to take their mega seller of the end of the year and delay it for two weeks. The reason for this is quite a smart one. With Halo 2, Half-Life 2, Metroid Prime 2, Mario Power Tennis, Goldeneye: Rogue Agent, Call of Duty: Finest Hour, The Urbz, Need For Speed Underground 2, and Viewtiful Joe 2 all coming out in the time span of 2 weeks they have thought it through and come to the decision that they don't want any part of those 2 weeks. Now it's not that they are afraid PoP 2 will not sell, they are just confident that it will sell better a few weeks later. The new release date for Prince of Persia: Warrior Within is now November 30th. Why must every publisher release their big name games those 2 weeks?

Peach is Super [ Spong ]

After leaving Peach out of starring her own game for so long, Nintendo's finally put an end to that. Nothing in the way of a release date, details, video, or screens, but Nintendo should release some eventually. You all know how they are.

Midway comments on Mortal Kombat: Deception for GameCube [ Mortal Kombat Online ]

The Mortal Kombat fansite Mortal Kombat Online held a chat yesterday with Mortal Kombat creator (or kreator, if you will) Ed Boon as well as Midway company spokesman Tim DaRosa. One of the topics brought up ws the upcoming GameCube version of Mortal Kombat: Deception, and Midway promised nothing but good things to come.

"The GameCube version will definitely include some new features… some that you may have already heard about and others that we've kept under wraps," said DaRosa. "I'd venture to say that exclusive characters will definitely be a good possibility, and you can also look forward to some new gameplay features...more on that later."

Looks like Midway is making up for the lack of online play by offering some killer exclusives. The GameCube edition of the game will hit stores on January 15th, 2005.

More Q1 Euro Dates [ Nintendo of Europe ]

In addition to DK "beating off" (by the way, Silver, that was horrible) in February, there are a few more games slated to hit Europe in the first quarter of 2005. The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures lands on February 7, Mario Power Tennis hits shelves on the 25, Mario Party 6 for March 18, and Resident Evil 4 for March 2005. Also for January expect to see Mega Man X Command Mission, and Jimmy Neutron: Attack of the Twonkies, Spongebob Squarepants the Movie, and TimeSplitters: Future Perfect in February. Viewtiful Joe 2 and Fairly Oddparents: Shadow Showdown are landing in March. Make note that, while it doesn't have a date yet, Killer 7 is indeed slated to come out in this quarter as well, along with Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and Ghost Recon 2.

GBA release dates include January 7 for the NES Classic Series II, while March will see Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories. Smashing Drive will crash on January 21, with It's Mr. Pants coming some time in January as well. Banjo Pilot, Jimmy Neutron, and Spongebob are all expected in February. Joining Kingdom Hearts in March will be Bionicle 2 and Tak 2: Staff of Dreams. Advance Guardian Heroes has been confirmed for Q1, but no date yet, as well as Winnie the Pooh Rumbly Tumbly Adventure (I know what I'm getting Eric for his next birthday!).

DK Beats Off in February [ Nintendo of Europe ]

On February 4th Donkey Kong will be clapping his hands to the beat (what did you think I meant?) in DK: Jungle Beat in Europe. The release date is earlier than the May-June release that everyone was expecting for North America and Japan. This most likely means of course that North America and Japan will be getting the game earlier or shortly after Europe.

DK has to brave the dangers of the jungle to rescue his simian pals! Grab a set of DK Bongos and use them to guide Donkey Kong through wild jungle environments brimming with ravenous enemies and challenging obstacles.

WWE.com gets a taste of the DS [ WWE.com ]

Wrestling fans who hit up World Wrestling Entertainment's website today found something quite peculiar about the site - if you click the link above, you'll notice that all around the site that any word with the letters "D" and "S" in them subsequently has said letters in a greater size and different font from the rest of the word. Also, WWE.com has begun to place DS ads in banners all over the site, that seem to follow the same viral, mysterious advertising as before. It looks like Nintendo's DS promotional campaign has begun in a very unexpected way. It will be interesting to see in the coming weeks what the future holds for the promotion of the most anticipated new game system of the holidays.

Classic NES Series 2 Launches Today [ Nintendo ]

When you get right down to it, these games are all about me. It's the 1980s - the "Me" decade, ladies and gentlemen, and everyone who's anyone will have a full complement of Nintendo's Classic NES Series 2 games made for Game Boy Advance. These four titles, each sold at an affordable MSRP of $19.99, show the world that you're a major player. You work hard and you play hard. Let's look at the collection:

Dr. Mario: A massive virus outbreak can only be solved in one way: Throw a bunch of pills at the problem. When you're unwinding after shopping for luxury cars with a friend, compete head-to-head using a Game Boy Advance Wireless Adapter or the Game Boy Advance Game Link cable.

Metroid: The original side-scrolling adventure featuring badass bounty-hunting babe Samus Aran. She can bring home the bacon and disintegrate it with her Plasma Beam.

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link: You swing a sword and rescue a princess. Put simply, Link could buy and sell you.

Castlevania: Mummies, bats and zombies try to prevent you from undoing a curse in this classic adventure from Konami. Think of it as a rough day on the trading floor, except you have a magic whip.

Mario Kart: Double Dash!! Bundle [ Nintendo ]

It seems like just last year we were posting news about Mario Kart: Double Dash!! and Nintendo's Christmas plans. Here we go again with some stuff from The Big N's Christmas stocking. Starting Nov. 14, Nintendo will give holiday shoppers nationwide a great bundle offer featuring GameCube and the fan-favorite game Mario Kart: Double Dash!!. The bundle gives shoppers an amazing value for the standard low Nintendo GameCube MSRP of just $99.99.

Released in November 2003, Mario Kart: Double Dash!! remains one of the hottest racing titles of all time, having sold more than 1.6 million copies. The frenzied multiplayer action appeals to all kinds of players, from competitive family members to college students who love party games. Players can choose their karts, their drivers and even a back-seat driver to help hurl weapons or steal them from other karts while zooming around multiple racetracks at high speeds.

This bundle comes at a particularly important time for shoppers and retailers alike. As toy manufacturers report slow sales, major retailers again look to the video game industry to save the holiday season.

DS Ads to Begin to Air Tomorrow [ Reuters ]

In an article earlier today, Reuters reports that the Nintendo DS, which has been advertised for about a month now in Japan with no sign of ones coming to the U.S., will finally be advertised in print and TV ads starting tomorrow, October 25th. The tagline for the DS will be "Touching is Good" playing up the system's primary aspect, the touch screen, and will continue the trends of Nintendo promoting towards older gamers by using a feminine voiceover and sexual innuendo. It is clear from this that Nintendo is pushing the DS towards an older audience.

"When you're a kid you're always told you can't touch anything," said Perrin Kaplan, Nintendo of America's vice president of marketing. "Touching is good. You're grown-up now, so read it how you want."

Print ads featuring buxom models will begin to appear as well in men's magazines such as Blender and Maxim. The television ads starting tomorrow will only be teasers, but longer versions will air November 18th on such programs as South Park. Expect the teaser ads to see first light on tomorrow's editions of WWE Monday Night Raw and possibly even ABC's Monday Night Football.

Yes, I have other systems besides Nintendo ones, but I've always been a Nintendo faithful and plan on always being one as well. I look forward to working with everyone. Thanks for having me aboard.

Nintendo finally goes online....in China?!? [ Lik-Sang.com ]

Nintendo, in an interesting move, has announced that a USB cable upgrade will be released for their IQue system, available only in China. Previously, gamers were forced to go to Chinese supermarkets and download games onto special flash cards to play them on their IQue systems - but not anymore. The USB cable will allow gamers to download games directly from the internet onto flash cards. It gets better. Certain new games (as well as older ones, possibly) will be able to work with the USB connector for online multiplayer! For now, it's unknown if this development shows the future of Nintendo, including how the announced Nintendo DS online system will work, but it's good to see Nintendo is finally working on online gaming - at least in China.

X-Men Legends 2 Announced [ Activision ]

X-Men Legends has barely been out a month, but Activision has already announced that a sequel to the acclaimed X-Men action RPG game is in the works. Raven Software, developers of the first game, will return for the new installment, and are already hard at work on this one, according to Activision. No release dates or platforms were announced, but I think it's safe to say this one is coming the Cube's way. Expect more info about this title around E3 2005.

Nintendo has announded that IQue, the joint venture between Nintendo and former Silicon Graphics president Wan Yei, will release the Game Boy Advance SP in 21 different cities in China on October 27th. This will be the third Nintendo system to hit China; The original Game Boy Advance has been on sale in China since June, and the IQue player, which could play various N64 and SNES games without cartridges, was released in October of 2003.

DS Game Packaging [ IGN DS ]

IGN's DS channel has posted the final boxart of all of the games that will be available at launch for the dual-screened system. They are all of course in high resolution. One interesting note in the article is that these games will not be in cardboard boxes like their GBA bretheren. Rather, they will be in DVD-esque cases somewhat like the N-Gage games (at least Nokia got something right). This should be great for storing these games.

Nintendo Reveals Viral Advertising Campaign for Metroid Prime 2 [ "www.Channel51.org" ]

Hot on the heels of Bungie's "ilovebees" viral ad campaign/alternate reality game for Halo 2, Nintendo has responded with what is apparently a viral campaign for the upcoming game Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. Internet users who point their browsers to www.channel51.org will come across what is at first glance a site dedicated to uncovering conspiracies dealing with the extraterrestrial, the paranormal, and the alltogether unexplained. However, those who dig a little deeper will find images and videos on the site that are, although blurry and of an extremely poor quality, obviously from Metroid Prime 2. What makes the true purpose of this site even more obvious is that its creator is a woman by the name of "Samantha Manus" living in "Sumas, WA" - clear references to the Metroid series heroine, Samus Aran. This site will be updated in the future, so it is definately worth a look to see if it will in fact reveal any more information about what will be one of the hottest titles this holiday season. Perhaps the most interesting thing about the site is that it links to www.orbislabs.com, a site for a military tech lab developing a new vehicle called a "Battle Sphere" - obviously, this is not a real vehicle in development, and I think it's clear to see what in Metroid this is supposed to represent, but it's still kind of cool.

NOTE: Also connected to these other two sites is a page at URLs such as www.ilovebeams.com and www.iloveskis.com, the URLs being references to the aformentioned "ilovebees.com" campaign for Halo 2. Going to any one of these sites will bring users to a page featuring Samus's visored mug, as well as the text "ALL YOUR BEES ARE BELONG TO US. NEVER SEND A MAN TO DO A WOMAN’S JOB.", another shot at ilovebees. Could this be Nintendo and Retro Studios starting a slander campaign against Microsoft? Only time will tell...

First Details of Viewtiful Joe DS Revealed [ Clover Studios ]

As promised in their weekly column last week, Clover Studios' official website has revealed the first details of its first game for the Nintendo DS, and as expected, it is Viewtiful Joe DS, the first excursion of everyone's favorite henshin-a-go-going hero onto a handheld console. Although barely anything was announced, there were still a few juicy details that were unveiled - for example, although the game will be the same action-based side-scrolling beat-em-up of its console brethren, the game will not take place in Movie Land. The game will also make use of the dual screens, hinting that they will show things related to "movies", whatever that means. Finally, a new, "important" character will make his (or her) debut. There was also a tiny, blurry screenshot of the game posted as a teaser which you can view by clicking the above link, but since the shot is so poor, it doesn't reveal anything more about the game. Even so, it's great to see one of the most highly touted games for the GameCube is now making its way to the DS. Keep it here as more info on this title is released.

Gamestop to Release Special Edition Resident Evil 4 Package [ IGN Cube Mailbag ]

Thanks to Matt Casamassina, editor-in-chief at IGN Cube, we can now confirm a special edition package of Resident Evil 4 will be available exclusively to Gamestop. Although the game won't be any different from the regular version, the special Gamestop edition will include the following:

- A special red metal/tin Resident Evil 4 box
- A mini Resident Evil 4 art book
- The soundtracks from the movies Resident Evil and Resident Evil: Apocalypse
- A resident Evil 4 laser cell

Although this will probably cost more than the regular package, it looks like the special edition will be more than worth the added cost. Not only that, but it looks as if the special edition will be on display when the game is released, so gamers will not need to preorder the game in order to get it. The RE4 special edition will be released in Gamestops everywhere on the same day as the regular version, January 11th, 2005.

In addition, after only 2 days on sale, a staggering 250,000 Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen games were sold, following the games' launch on 1st October.

Jim Merrick, Senior Director of European Marketing for Nintendo of Europe, said, "This is a record sales uplift for the handheld console that continues to lead the market, with a European installed base of almost 5 million...The phenomenal success of Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen in the first two days on sale proves that the franchise is still very much alive."

In the run up to Christmas 2004 Nintendo and third parties will be launching more highly anticipated games including, The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap and Mario vs. Donkey Kong, Need for Speed Underground 2 and The Lord of the Rings; The Third Age (EA), Tony Hawk's Underground 2 (Activision) and Disney Pixar's The Incredibles (THQ), and gamers have never had it so good! Prince of Persia: Website Within [ Ubisoft ]

The UK website for Prince of Persia: Warrior Within is up and live. The site has a ton of info on the game, as well as an amazing new trailer that shows up the fantastic cinematics of the game and a new tagline: "You Will Die." You'll also hear the Prince's voice for the first time since we last left him in POP: Sands of Time. He sounds much more grown up and, frankly, badass. Also included are "3D Screenshots," which allow you to look at a single screen from any angle, which is pretty damn cool. The Wallpapers show off a couple new characeters, Shahdee and the Empress of Time, both of whom are two solid examples of why this game is sure to get a strong M rating (you'll see what I mean). Check it out, this game is definitely shaping up to be one of the best of the year.

This is Just Way Too Funny [ Waxy.org ]

Tony Hawk Underground 2 just came out, and with it, the Star Wars Kid is back, having 15 more minutes of fame. You probably remember the "Star Wars Kid" from a few months ago as the poor sap who was caught on video acting like a total goof by using a golf ball retriever as a lightsaber and vanquishing imaginary foes. He has a highly unnecessary but hilarious appearance in THUG2.

According to Waxy.org, to see the legend at work, "On the Boston level if you ollie through the glass windows on one of the buildings (it's one or two to the left of the one where Ben Franklin is hiding) you land in a living room with a flat panel tv on the wall. If you stand in front of the TV Ghyslain gets up and shouts something about watching Star Wars (which you're now preventing). Hitting X will result in him showing off his moves." More on the Revolution from Reggie [ Nintendo ]

Nintendo of America's charismatic VP of sales and marketing Reggie Fils-Aime has confirmed that the company is aiming to launch its next home console in the same timeframe as Sony's PS3, and attacked Microsoft's "rush" to the next generation.

"Our focus is this: we will bring Revolution to the marketplace roughly at the same time as the competition," Fils-Aime told US website IGN. "We are driving our timetables based on what we believe Sony will do."

While Nintendo may be watching Sony to work out when to jump on the next generation, the company is less sold on Microsoft's approach. "Not that I want to ignore the Xbox," Fils-Aime qualified, "but certainly we believe that a rush to a new system is a mistake." Fils-Aime also confirmed that the forthcoming Nintendo DS handheld could potentially be used to link up with the GameCube console, and will almost certainly boast link features with the Revolution platform.

"Could there be interactivity with GameCube?" he said. "Potentially. Depends on the software and accessories needed from a GameCube perspective. But it's certainly possible. Could there be interaction with the Revolution? Certainly possible. Certainly capable."

EA Reveals Info on DS Titles [ Electronic Arts ]

EA today issued a press release dealing with their three launch titles for the Nintendo DS - Madden NFL 2005, Tiger Woods PGA Tour, and The Urbz: Sims in the City. All three games have been optimized for the DS system, making full use of all of it's features like the dual screens, touch screen, and wireless multiplayer.

Madden NFL 2005 will be "the deepest and most authentic handheld sports game ever" according to the release. The system's touch screen will be used to select plays and call audibles, as well as drag the stylus to kick the ball for kickoffs and punts with precise control. The lower screen will also be used for the "Field Radar", to show players at their positions on the field while the top screen shows the action in full 3D. The game will also have wireless head-to-head play, all 32 NFL teams with their authentic home and away uniforms, as well as every NFL player complete with player portrait. The game will include all of the features that has made the Madden series so famous, including Season mode, Situation mode, and the popular Two-Minute Drill.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour will feature such professional golf luminaries as current world #1 Vijay Singh, PGA Legend Jack Nicklaus, and of course, Tiger Woods himself. The game will feature 6 courses - 5 real, 1 fantasy - and will make use of the touch screen and stylus to swing the club, moving the stylus along a curve to determine swing power, which replaces the power and accuracy meters utilized in the console versions of the game. Tiger Woods PGA Tour will also feature wireless multiplayer, for up to 4 players at a time.

The Urbz: Sims in the City will have several exclusive features not available in the console and GBA versions of the game, including a touch screen-based menu system, 24 exclusive objects, five exclusive minigames, and 12 exclusive characters.

All three games are rated E for Everyone and will be released upon the DS launch on November 21st.

Mario Bitchslaps History, Declares World Flat [ Nintendo ]

To commemorate Columbus Day, video game icon Mario has taken a contrarian position by declaring that the world is flat. As a result, Mario has stated his intention to relocate to the country's flattest metropolitan area, Houston. Though Mario readily admits that he is going against hundreds of years of scientific fact, he says all the evidence for the Earth's flatness is found in his new adventure game, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.

The game, launching today exclusively for Nintendo GameCube, showcases the ability of Mario and his friends to manipulate their flat, 2-D bodies in dynamic ways. Mario can roll himself into a tube and bounce, slip sideways through narrow passages or fold himself into a paper airplane and soar away. The comical role-playing game sets him on a search for Princess Peach and treasure.

Square Enix Producer Talks with Miyamoto [ Gamestop ]

Square Enix producer Akitoshi Kawazu started off the coversation with, "It's a 15-year-old game. We've tried a number of times to port it to a new system, but it's never realized yet," Kawazu said. (A port of FFIII was announced and shown for the Bandai WonderSwan Color handheld in Japan, but it was never released.) "The interface will really be different from the original, using the touch panel and the double screen. So please look forward to the game's rebirth."

He continues with, "Crystal Chronicles was a game that was played with both the GameCube and the Game Boy Advance," Kawazu began. "But this time, it won't have that kind of a mechanism--you will play the game with the DS alone."

After hearing this, Miyamoto went on to say, "In creating GBA connectivity games for the GameCube, we had to deal with four handheld systems at once. Trying to get it all equipped was just troublesome," Miyamoto laughed. "But the DS comes with its own two screens, and it doesn't need wires. We're working on Legend of Zelda: Four Swords for the DS, so it'll be a competition."

Miyamoto also said, "Square Enix is famous for Internet gaming," persuaded Miyamoto. "Well, we're planning to connect the DS to the Internet, so I'm wondering if Square Enix is thinking of anything in this vein."

Finally Kawazu replied with, "I'm not sure if we can just bring our Internet games directly to the DS, since that would be rather difficult," replied Kawazu. "And a lot of people are still saying that the barrier to playing network [games] is too high. But I'm hoping that the DS will help lower that threshold, by bringing mobile games to the DS."

Reggie Slams Sony [ Nintendo ]

I'm still not sure if this is actually a statement from Reggie Fils-Amie, but it sure sounds like something he would say which is why I am going to post it. It is basically Reggie taking his shots at Sony for the poor battery life. When I get this confirmed 100 percent I will make an update saying so.

"Let me tell you something. Those little women at the Tokyo Game Show with those portable consoles strapped to them; what you didn’t see is that those women were having to go recharge the batteries every two hours!" He goes on to say, "We have gone on the record to state that the Nintendo DS will have battery life comparable to the Game Boy Advance SP. Nowhere will you find any mention of the other machines power life. And you have to wonder why."

Knowing that the battery of the DS will be comparable to the SP brings a warm joyous feeling to my heart. Nintendo says that the GBA SP battery lasts for 20 hours but I and just about everyone else says their battery lasts upwards and onwards of 50 hours. It just doesn't look good for Sony right now.

Super Mario 64 DS Story, Characters, Special Powers [ Nintendo ]

Game Storyline: After receiving an invitation from Princess Peach to visit and eat cake, Mario, Luigi and Wario travel to the royal castle, but when they get there, nobody's home. Yoshi, napping on the roof of the castle, wakes up and realizes the castle is somehow different and eerily silent. When Yoshi enters the castle to check things out, he discovers that Bowser has pilfered the castle's Power Stars and imprisoned the Toads in the castle's sizable collection of paintings. It's up to the dynamic dino Yoshi to save the day and figure out where Mario, Luigi and Wario disappeared to.

Characters: Mario, Yoshi, Luigi, Wario, Toads, Peach, Bowser

How to progress through the game: Play multiplayer games with your friends or progress through the Adventure mode by exploring the worlds hidden in paintings inside Peach's castle. The more Power Stars you collect, the more worlds will open up to you.

Special powers/weapons/moves/features: Each of the four main characters has multiple jumping moves that cover great horizontal and vertical distances, and each of them has player-specific moves. Yoshi can eat enemies and turn them into eggs that he can throw; Mario can punch, kick and wall-jump to great heights; Wario can break certain blocks; and Luigi can jump incredibly high. Not only that, but Power Flowers in the game give each character even cooler powers, like invisibility, fire breath or the power to float through the air.

From the DS Press Conference comes Hitofune, which looks to be a puzzle title for the Nintendo DS. However, the game is worth a mention due to the fact that two of the screens are taken from a vertical perspective, and on the page the shots were obtained from, the picture of the DS used to frame the images was on it's side. This may very well be one of the first games to use the rumored DS two-player format, with one player using the D-Pad and the other using the A/B/X/Y Buttons. Nintendo Encourages "Game Sharing" [ Nintendo ]

This is quite interesting. You wanna play Super Mario 64 DS with your friends right? But they don't have the game, that totally sucks. But wait, with the innovative technology Nintendo has incorportated into the DS you can download the game from your friend and go at it. This type of "Game Sharing" will not only be for Super Mario 64 DS. Already confirmed to also have this feature is Big Concert! Band Brothers and Nintendo has reassured us that many other multiplayer DS games will also have this as well.

But the wireless connectivity gets even better. You want to play that new game you're hearing about to see if it's worth your thirty bucks. Well you can. Nintendo plans on having free-downloadable demos of games so people can check them out before they buy them. This is just a tease of these features, full details will be released in the near future.

Feel the Movie at Your Fingertips With Nintendo DS [ Nintendo ]

"To utilize the wireless communication capability of the DS, Nintendo plans to offer a new service enabling users to download extra data such as new characters from the new Pokemon movie, to be released next summer," Iwata said. "You just need to bring the DS and one of the Pokemon software for Game Boy Advance and you'll be downloading some unique Pokemon data while you watch the movie."

Those are words straight from the man himself, Satoru Iwata. Is this a thing to come in the future? Could we possibly be watching a Metroid movie in the future and communicating with the movie via our wonderful Nintendo DS? This seems like a giant step in interactivity and that seems like where Nintendo wants to go. Keep a watch out for more info on this here at the Café.

Nintendo Hints at Future GameCube Price Drop [ Nintendo of Japan ]

As if the one hundred dollar price isn't cheap enough for a GameCube, Metroid Prime, and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes Bonus disc, Nintendo has hinted that they will further drop the price of Cube for the upcoming Holiday season and/or add more great games to the already great one hundred dollar package. Nintendo Senior Managing Director Yoshihiro Mori had the following to say on the matter, "Our GameCube hardware business was slightly hurt by price cuts by our rivals but we're considering launching a sales promotion campaign for the peak Christmas shopping season and expect to achieve our full-year sales target." With the new low price of the GBA SP and the release of the DS in time for the Holidays I am confident that Nintendo will do fairly well in the upcoming months.

Resident Evil 4 Complete TGS Demo [ GameCube Café ]

This is the full length direct feed video of the Resident Evil 4 demo that was playable on the show floor of the Tokyo Game Show. There are only a few differences between this demo and the one we played at E3. The status screen menu has been updated and remodeled. Instead of one item taking up one block and getting only like six blocks you now have fifty five blocks. However, certain items take up more blocks than others. The handgun for example takes up six blocks, the shotgun takes up eight blocks, the knife takes up three blocks, herbs take up two, ammo takes up two, and grenades take up two. I am unsure if anything takes only one block, right now it doesn't seem like it. The only other change that I notice is that there are more enemy character models than in the E3 demo. Granted, when the game is released you will not see the same enemy character model twice (like in REmake). There is about twenty minutes of video below broken into two parts. You can click and stream the video in your browser or right click and save them to your hard drive.

New RE4 Info [ Capcom Japan ]

Capcom updated their Japanese version of the RE4 site but they have no updated their english part as well. They have added a "Creatures" section which shows two of the supposedly first bosses we will fight in the game. They have also added a third page of screenshots but if you have been watching the Café you have already seen these screens (we are faster than Capcom on posting new screens). They have also added the Village Chief to the list of characters. This Chief is also a priest and it seems that he is the one responsible for turning the townfolk into "El Ganado" which means, "The Cattle."
